Plug and Play APAC Latest Investments

This is our very first post featuring highlights of our recent investments across Southeast Asia. For this inaugural post, we will be featuring Assemblr, Ion Mobility, and Gomodo Technologies all of which comes under our Indonesia portfolio.

Gomodo Technologies: Digitizing Micro-SMEs in the travel industry

As the largest market in Southeast Asia, we all know Indonesia has great potential. Yet there are still many untapped groups of tour operators that slipped through our cracks. Lius Widjaja saw the opportunity and that is why he built Gomodo Technologies to empower the untapped micro and small tour operators.

With a $9.7 billion worth of tours and activities market in Indonesia, Gomodo Technologies is a one-stop digital empowerment software platform for services and tourism MSMEs in developing regions. Small traditional tour operators no longer need to worry about distributing brochures, or manually do their bookkeeping anymore as they will get a set of business software tools like a free website to take in bookings and payments; e-invoicing, and even a distribution system to agents and resellers such as Klook and KKDay globally.

Amid the current difficult situation, especially for the travel industry, Gomodo still strives by tying up a partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry to empower even more MSME travel operators in the country.

Assemblr: Platform to create, discover and share AR experiences

Assemblr is a SaaS Augmented Reality (AR) content creation platform for businesses and individuals to discover, create, and share Augmented Reality experiences for purposes such as education, product marketing, and entertainment. Three co-founders have worked together in Octagon Studio that was founded by Hasbi Asyadiq, the founder and CEO of Assemblr. Hasbi has about 10 years’ experience in the AR field and co-founded 2 VR/AR startups. He led Octagon Studio to grow from a tiny team to more than 40 team members.

With a highly scalable business model and good traction in terms of its number of business clients and its app downloads, Assemblr has also been selected into Facebook Singapore program. Facebook aims to reach out to Indonesia’s educational institutes, which is a potential opportunity to boost Assemblr’s go-to-market.

Ion Mobility: Reducing pollution in Jakarta with the Tesla of two-wheelers

Founded in 2019 by two highly experienced co-founders James Chan and Joel Chang, Ion Mobility is a Singapore based startup, that is building high-tech electric scooters to be the Tesla of scooters and motorcycles in the mid-performance range of 110-250cc.

It is common knowledge that Indonesia has one of the poorest air quality in the world. Jakarta was the unhealthiest city in the world on Jun 4, 2019 with an AQI of 210. The transportation sector contributes to 70-80% of pollution in urban areas and according to the Greater Jakarta Transportation Agency, 75% of these are motorcycles. Ion Mobility is hoping to fix this problem by providing a superior build quality and performance electric scooters with a 20% lower 3-year Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) compared to 150cc petrol scooters from major brands.

Together with the founders who have experiences in major brands like GreyOrange, WeCash, BMW, and Munich Automobiles, Plug and Play believes Ion Mobility will be the future Tesla of two-wheelers in Asia.
